This app entitled "British and Irish Butterflies" is an abridgment of the book of the same name by Adrian Riley. It comprises all the text, photographs and site information of the book, but lacks the scientific references, which can be consulted in the original published work if desired, readily available discounted from the publisher’s website (bramblebybooks.co.uk) or at Amazon.co.uk.

description of the 59 full species, and subspecies and forms of the butterflies of the British Isles, comprising a total of 108 taxa.

detailed information on where and when to find them, using Ordnance Survey grid references.

A major aim of the app and book is to highlight the need to conserve the butterfly fauna of these islands; hence a proportion of profits from sales will be given to Butterfly Conservation to aid their splendid work in helping maintain the diversity and distribution of our butterflies.

The publisher, Brambleby Books, hopes that greater awareness of butterfly ecology and behaviour, impinging as it does on their genetics and evolution, will lead to the maintenance of a flourishing butterfly fauna so that future generations can also enjoy these fascinating creatures in all their beauty and diversity.
